Matt Owen

It is hard to find a coach with the combination of an in depth knowledge base and an attitude that wants to see everyone succeed, but those two come together in Matt Owen when it comes to coaching clients.

Matt has built his fitness knowledge up over the past 15 years, starting with a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science and a Master’s Degree in Human Performance, both from Lindenwood University. Matt’s college degrees are only the beginning of his training knowledge. With a passion for fitness theory and functional movement translation, Matt has studied various training strategies intensively, including The Bulgarian Method, Condensed and Standard Conjugate Sequence Systems, Block Periodization, Triphasic and Cube Method - just to name a few. Matt has attended countless fitness training courses, including USA Weightlifting Level 1, Crossfit, Gym Jones Certification, and Attitude Nation Weightlifting. Matt Owen is also the Director of Programming for Gym Jones in Salt Lake City, Utah where he puts these theories into practice.

Matt doesn’t just study the theory of fitness, he lives it. Starting from a young age, Matt has been involved in sports. He played football (quarterback) and ran track in high school and continued his track career in college, competing at a national level. After college, he continued to compete in track until he made the switch to compete in Olympic Weightlifting where he continues to compete nationally. Matt understands the hard work that goes into achieving your goals and doesn’t hesitate to coach his clients through the hard times as well as the wins.

Matt’s passion and dedication to all things fitness spills over into the clients that he works with on a daily basis. He is devoted to ensuring that everyone reaches their goals, no matter how big or small they are and his zeal for what he does makes even the most mundane tasks enjoyable. In the gym, everyone is important to Matt, no matter what their training goals are.

Matt and his wife Emily have been married since 2010 and enjoy hanging out with their two Whippet puppies, Willow and Wispy, and their two cats, Flash and Izzy. When Matt isn’t at the gym, he can be seen cruising around town in his black 2012 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1.
